National Learn To Row Day 2016

National Learn To Row Day 2015

If you’ve ever wanted to learn how to row, or you’d like to get back into the sport, now is the time.

We’re offering two great opportunities:

National Learn To Row Day clinic: June 4
Two 2-Week Learn to Row Sessions: beginning June 6 & 7

Who: Men and women age 22 or older (US Rowing rules). No experience necessary, all fitness levels welcome. EBRC is a community club and we embrace rowers of all kinds.

What: Your Learn To Row clinic will cover boat handling, terminology, and the rowing stroke. You’ll spend some time on an erg (an indoor rowing machine…although we use them outdoors when weather permits!) to get a feel for the parts of the stroke. You’ll begin to get comfortable being on the water and handling oars on our barge on the Estuary. You’ll also learn about a rowing shell and how it works.

When: Saturday, June 4, 10am – 1pm

Where: Jack London Aquatic Center, 115 Embarcadero, Oakland, CA 94607

What to bring: Hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, clothes/shoes appropriate for an outdoor workout, signed waiver and release form, and a bottle of water.

Registration: Our National Learn To Row Day clinic is free! Class size is limited, so register now.

If you like what you learn at the clinic, sign up for a two-week novice session with EBRC!

What: Six days of on- and off-the-water practice to learn the rowing stroke and what it’s like to row in a rowing shell. You’ll also have time to interact with the Men’s and Women’s teams during their regular practice times (please ask questions!) Your coach is Sara Nevin, head coach for the Mills Cyclones, former collegiate champion rower, and EBRC Board member. Coach Sara brings to our boathouse not only a lifetime of experience, but also a particular passion for introducing novices to the sport.
